Reference Department
Located on the second floor, the reference desk handles requests for information from the public. Staff provide ready reference as well as bibliographic instruction. Questions are handled in order of receipt and appointments are recommended for more detailed information needs.
Circulation Department
Located on the first floor by the parking lot entrance, the circulation department handles issuing new and renewing library cards, checkouts and returns, pick up for materials requested from other libraries, and Music CDs and DVDs.
Genealogy Department
We collect materials reflecting the general migration patterns of people in Southern Illinois. The primary focus is on Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as Southern Illinois. Of secondary importance are materials covering other migration routes through Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana
Children’s Department
Children, twelve and under, enjoy visiting the third floor of the library. Materials selected especially for their age/interests are arranged in a comfortable area that includes a cushioned bathtub for reading. Staff provides story times as scheduled.
The library also makes an effort to select materials featured in the Accelerated Reader program.
